 Who We Are

This congregation was founded in 1784, and today, as part of the United Church
of Christ, we are privileged to continue serving the lakes region and its many visitors.  Our people are our ministers: we try to make our lives examples of the love that Jesus taught his followers.  The mission of our church is to glorify God, to care for all God's people,  and to provide a spiritually safe place for all who would seek to know God's Spirit in Jesus the Christ.  We share in the UCC's proclamation, "God is Still Speaking."

We are known as 'The Country Church with the Big Heart.' We have gentle but strong Outreach Ministries which feature a free Clothes Closet (running 20 consecutive years), and an 'Adopt a Child' Christmas Program.

Mission Statement

The mission of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ of BridgtonMaine, is to share God’s love within our community and throughout the world. We gather together in the presence of God, who calls everyone to worship, serve, teach and celebrate in the name and spirit of Christ.

In response to God’s love, demonstrated most perfectly in Jesus the Christ, we welcome everyone regardless of race; gender; sexual orientation; physical, mental or emotional ability; economic situation or family circumstance. As an open and affirming community, we worship as God’s people, side by side, accepting that we are all different in God’s love.

We strive for justice and peace throughout creation by practicing good stewardship of the earth and seeking spiritually positive relationships with members of all faith communities. We respect the diversity of all people and invite everyone to join us in
our celebration of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
